ABOUT

Hi, I’m Mia. I’m a freelance writer and content editor.

Originally from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, I’ve spent most of the last 10 years living in London. Well, except for the summer of 2016, which I spent hopping around New York (still the best summer of my life).

I specialise in content and copywriting, strategy and digital storytelling – predominantly across the food, travel and creative industries. Since 2014, I’ve worked at renowned content and advertising agencies in London, notably Cedar Communications, Sunday, and Publicis Poke. However, I started my career in journalism – cutting my teeth as a junior reporter in local news, interning at national magazines, and earning a BA and later PgDip in journalism from Cardiff University.

Since 2022, I’ve also been working as an Online Tutor on the MA Marketing and Digital Communications degree at Falmouth University, where I teach on the creative digital storytelling module. I recently took on the position of Acting Lecturer on the major projects (dissertation) module. On this degree, we explore how to maximise the reach of campaigns by harnessing new and existing trends in storytelling, technology, marketing and digital strategy.

Visit my work page to find out more about the projects I’ve contributed to, my previous clients, and the freelance services I offer. Or, if you want to take a look at my career timeline in more depth, visit my LinkedIn.

In the meantime, here's some other non-work-related trivia:

  • In late 2023, I started a side project called Oren Studio to explore our relationship with creativity and creative practices. I’ve been interviewing various people, from photographers to writers, to ask them how they connect to their creativity and what influences or impacts their work.

  • In 2023, I also completed a PGCHE at Falmouth University with a focus on online and blended learning environments. I achieved a distinction in every assignment.

  • In March 2021, I was selected as a UN Women UK Delegate to the 65th Commission on the Status of Women. For two weeks, I attended meetings with high-level government ministers, representatives from NGOs and UN delegates to discuss and produce recommendations for the future of women and girls’ place in society.

  • In 2020, I started an MA in Political Communication at Cardiff University. Having worked in social media for many years, I developed a deep interest in platforms' role in democratic processes. My interests were in social media regulation, platform governance, and misinformation/disinformation, which were the focus of my dissertation. I achieved a distinction.

  • In 2019/2020, I volunteered as a Radio Producer for Boogaloo Radio in London covering Tuesday evening shows, including Hard of Hearing Music, Egyptian Elbows, and Hit the North (with esteemed music executives Mike Smith and Rob Owen).
